Vikash works to improve the mental health and well-being of children and individuals with mental illness in Odisha. They provide medicine, psychiatric care, counseling, psycho-social support, and assistance with productive engagement, livelihood activities, and inclusion in government schemes. Due to financial constraints, many families cannot afford the necessary treatment and medication. Vikash currently aids around 700 children with epilepsy and people with mental illness in Puri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, and Malkangiri.
Additionally, Vikash offers special education and ADLs training to 450 children with intellectual disabilities, including mental retardation, in these four districts Puri, Koraput, Malkangiri and Nabarangpur. These children require special attention and care as they often depend on their families, who may not have the time or resources to support them adequately. Vikash helps these children become more independent and integrates them into general schools, ensuring they receive the education they are entitled to under the Persons with Disabilities Act, of 1996. By doing so, Vikash promotes their social inclusion and fosters holistic development.
